The restaurant was born in 1903, a product of the enthusiasm of Mariano Cantarini, and handed down, in 1925, to his son, who continued the successful activity of this osteria where, once upon a time, Romans were served panini accompanied by wine, beer and other drinks.
The kitchen stated to take on a key role when the guests started bringing raw foods to be cooked directly by the cook of our osteria.
Mario Fattori started working at the osteria in 1943, at just 8 years of age, beginning as a simple waiter to become, in 1980, the current owner.
Ours is a simple but flavoursome cuisine. Many of our dishes are the result of a fusion between flavours typical of the Roman tradition and those of the gastronomy of the Marches.
The menu makes room for both meat and fish speciality dishes: from Monday to Thursday we offer our guests the possibility of tasting meat dishes, while at the weekend we exclusively serve speciality dishes based on fresh fish.
Here, a meal cannot be said to be compete unless you have tasted one of our home-made decadent desserts, such as our delicious cherry tart or our exquisite crème caramel… You will be licking your fingers!
The Cantina Cantarini restaurant is located in the heart of the Sallustiano quarter, overlooking Piazza Sallustio and right on the curve of the magnificent Via Veneto.
The Roman osteria is situated in a strategic position, just a short walk from the historic centre of Rome, and is, in other words, as centrally located as Termini station.
We await you in the centre of Rome so that you can try our typical dishes in a typically Roman atmosphere, where good home-made cuisine and excellent wine prevail, in an historic Roman osteria. Come and visit us, and you will discover that you can no longer do without us!
